Position Description: The Section of Newborn Critical Care, Department Pediatrics, invites applications for a part-time 0.3 FTE position as the Newborn Critical Care Section Chief within Alberta Health Services- Calgary Zone. This position reports to the Zone Clinical Department Head, Pediatrics. The position is open to applicants both internal and external to the Section of Newborn Critical Care, Department of Pediatrics, Calgary Zone, Alberta Health Services. All external applicants will also be required to work a separate clinically-based contract in the Neonatology Clinical Alternative Relationship Plan and must also apply to the following position posted on Doctor Jobs Alberta: Position Title: Neonatologist, Calgary Zone, FMC Requisition: TBC Link: TBC The Section Chief of Newborn Critical Care is responsible for the overall function and structure of the Zone Clinical Section and shall be responsible through the Zone Clinical Department Head for matters within the Zone Clinical Section. In a competent and professional manner, and without limiting the authority of AHS relative to its administrative structures, the responsibilities of the Zone Clinical Section Chief for Newborn Critical Care, in the Department of Pediatrics include, but are not limited to: PATIENT CARE: • Ensure that Zone Clinical Department policies regarding provision of quality Patient care and safety are developed and implemented. • Establish, review and revise policies, procedures and guidelines for the Zone Clinical Section relating to patient care in a timely fashion. • Review patient concerns in conjunction with AHS administrative staff, evaluate the findings and make appropriate recommendations to the Zone Clinical Department Head. ADMINISTRATION: • Conduct Zone Clinical Section meetings at least monthly to discuss matters pertinent to the Section and to maintain minutes of such meetings. • Assist with drafting service agreement deliverables and ensure the physician members of the Zone Clinical Section are meeting the standards of their individual services agreements. • Assist with performing Periodic Review for Section members pursuant to Part 5 of the Bylaws. • Recommend Medical Staff Appointments and Clinical Privileges, as well as changes to Appointments and Clinical Privileges to the Zone Clinical Department Head. TEACHING: • Support the coordination of teaching activities of all disciplines within the Zone Clinical Section such that all teaching is high quality, appropriate and integrated into the overall activities of the Department. • Promote educational programs for the Zone Clinical Section members and others associated with the Zone Clinical Section. RESEARCH • Develop, promote, and support the coordination of research activities of all disciplines within the Zone Clinical Section such that all research is high quality, appropriate and integrated into the overall activities of the Department. Qualifications: Qualifications include an MD or equivalent, Fellowship certification in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, or equivalent. Must have experience being responsible for overall running of a Level III NICU and must also be willing to provide clinical service in a Level III NICU. The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Must read, write, and speak English.
