The Department of Anesthesiology Perioperative and Pain Medicine, Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone, invites applications for the position of RGH Section Chief. A standard position in the division will be a 0.2 FTE. The starting date for this position will be on July 1, 2025. The Section Chief assists and collaborates with the Zone Clinical Department Head and Anesthesia professional clinical staff to fulfill the following responsibilities: Management and Administrative · Collaborate with site leadership to coordinate activities related to the day-to-day delivery of anesthetic services at RGH · Conduct Section meetings ten times a year to discuss matters pertinent to the Section, maintain minutes, and facilitate resolution of identified problems in a collaborative manner · Assist the Zone Clinical Department Head, Physician Resource Committee and the Anesthesia Executive Committee with physician resource planning and long term planning for the Section · Represent the Section, or provide a delegate at the site Operating Room Committee, the Anesthesia Executive Committee, and other AHS committees as required · Coordinate Section activities related to quality assurance and resources utilization and management · Assist with development of policies and practice guidelines related to anesthesia practice and its management · Submit an Annual Report of the Section’s activities to the Zone Clinical Department Head Academic · Support the academic mission of the Department of Anesthesia and ensure there is continuing commitment to education and research programs. · Ensure scheduling of residents, clinical clerks, and other trainees to provide appropriate clinical experience · Ensure maintenance of CME Site Rounds and documentation of staff attendance at these rounds for Royal College Maintenance of Certification. Equipment maintenance and standardization · Collaborate with Operations leadership team to represent the Section in the Zone equipment planning process to maintain an inventory of all major capital equipment and planning for future needs · Ensure that all equipment meets currently acceptable standards as published by national and provincial regulating agencies, e.g. CAS and Canadian Standards Association Guidelines. Qualifications: Applicants must be a qualified MD or equivalent, with specialist certification in anesthesiology, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta for independent anesthesia care. The successful Candidate will have their FRCPC in Anesthesia; have demonstrated the ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team; superior interpersonal communication skills; and a strong commitment to delivering innovative anesthetic care. The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Must read, write and speak English.
