The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, in partnership with the Alberta Health Services (AHS) in Edmonton, Alberta is inviting applications for a Locum Family Practice Anesthetist based primarily at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital in Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton region. The target start date is March 2026. A team of more than 160 department members, the Department of Anesthesiology is composed of physicians, anesthetists, scientists, educators and allied health professionals who provide services to ten Edmonton hospitals, and referrals from northern and western Alberta. We are a major referral centre for Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories with a referral base of over 1.5 million people. The Anesthesiology group provides services to patients at the Cross Cancer Institute, Grey Nuns Community Hospital, Leduc Community Hospital, Misericordia Community Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Stollery Children’s Hospital, Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital, Sturgeon Community Hospital and the University of Alberta Hospital.
The successful applicant will have, or be eligible for, certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP-FPA or CCFP) and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Completion of postgraduate medical education training in Family Practice Anesthesia is required. Remuneration will be based on a fee-for service model with billing directly to Alberta Health.
