Job Summary: Recovery Alberta invites applications for the role of Zone Clinical Department Facility Chief, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital (GRH) and Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) in Edmonton, Alberta. The Zone Clinical Department Facility Chief will work to integrate and optimize children and adolescent addiction and mental health services locally and provincially. Responsible for five (5) Child & Adolescent Psychiatry units, and additional day programs and clinics across the GRH and RAH sites, the role provides oversight and evaluation of services including child and adolescent acute care bed-based patients, day patients, the RAH Specialized Care Unit (SCU), GRH’s Stepdown Program, and Specialized Clinics. Physician leadership is central to driving high-performing, patient-centered health systems. This role blends clinical expertise with strategic oversight, ensuring that medical decisions, operational priorities, and organizational goals are aligned. An effective physician leader shapes culture, fosters accountability, advances quality and safety, and supports teams through evidence-informed decision-making. They build strong relationships across clinical, operational, administrative, and community partners; champion innovation; and guide systems through complexity and change. This position, working directly with operational counterparts, requires exceptional communication, sound judgment, and the ability to translate clinical insight into sustainable policy, operational planning, and workforce strategies that improve outcomes and strengthen organizational performance. The Zone Clinical Department Facility Chief is accountable for the planning, implementation, and delivery of the services in the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry units, clinics, and programs at each site. This role involves: • Direct supervision, leadership, and coaching of the sites’ medical staff. • Managing on site scheduling to ensure continuity of care along with helping to create a robust on call service to support RAH, GRH and Stollery sites along with the Stollery Hospital Facility Chief • Providing operational medical leadership to provide excellence in professional practice and enable quality, patient and family-centered care • Ensuring adherence to protocols, healthcare regulations and standards • Ensuring high-quality, safe, innovative and evidence-informed standards of care that achieve positive health outcomes • Designing and implementing efficiencies, developing best practices and establishing standards of practice • Contributing to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the units, programs, and clinics. • Identifying and addressing gaps in clinical practice as well as escalating learnings to address system level gaps. • Academic liaison with the Faculty of Medicine to ensure effective support for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, where appropriate • Participation
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and an understanding of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry to effectively manage the complexities of this patient demographic –developing brains, development milestones, and family-centered care. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with administrative and/or medical leadership experience and be considered a strong clinician by peers. The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency and shall have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry and shall have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. It is preferred that the applicant is a certified child and adolescent psychiatrist with the RCPSC. In addition, the successful applicant shall: • Have evidence of formal administrative experience, education, and/or training. • Have or obtain an academic appointment with the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta. • Obtain and maintain a Recovery Alberta Medical Staff Appointment. Reporting Relationship: The practitioner will report to the Zone Clinical Section Chief, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
