The Clinical Quality and Education Lead is a key physician leadership role within Assisted Living Alberta responsible for advancing clinical quality, patient safety, physician development, and evidence-informed practice across the organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer and working collaboratively with the Planning Performance and Quality (PPQ) Executive lead, the Clinical Quality and Education Lead will provide strategic and operational leadership for quality improvement, professional education, clinical excellence, and system performance initiatives that support Assisted Living Alberta’s mission and strategic priorities. The role is instrumental in developing high-performing clinical teams and ensuring that care delivery is guided by best available evidence, regulatory requirements, and organizational values. Key Responsibilities Clinical Quality and Patient Safety - Provide leadership for quality improvement and patient safety initiatives across Assisted Living Alberta. - Develop, implement, and evaluate strategies to improve clinical outcomes, patient experiences, and system performance. - Monitor and analyze key quality indicators, including falls, medication incidents, infections, pressure injuries, hospital transfers, and other measures of safety and quality. - Lead clinical audits, reviews, and quality assessments to identify opportunities for improvement. - In collaboration with PPQ support organizational accreditation activities and ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards. - Develop and maintain clinical policies, standards, and best-practice guidelines in collaboration with operational and medical leaders. - Lead or support root cause analyses, quality reviews, and improvement plans following adverse events and patient safety incidents. - Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement, transparency, accountability, and learning. Physician Engagement, Wellness, and Professional Development - Support initiatives that enhance physician engagement, leadership development, and professional fulfillment. - Promote a culture of civility, integrity, inclusion, reciprocity, and respect among medical staff and interdisciplinary teams. - Partner with organizational leaders to strengthen physician experience and professional growth opportunities. - Advance physician wellness by increasing awareness of available health and wellness resources and addressing barriers to access. - Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the medical staff community. - Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership support to physicians and medical leaders. Clinical Education and Knowledge Translation - Assess educational and professional development needs of medical staff. - Lead the development and implementation of physician orientation, onboarding, and continuing professional development initiatives. - Support the implementation of new clinical practices, technol
Qualifications Required • Licensed physician eligible for practice in Alberta. • Certification through the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). • Demonstrated leadership experience in clinical quality, patient safety, medical education, healthcare administration, or quality improvement. • Knowledge of healthcare quality frameworks, accreditation standards, and patient safety principles. • Experience leading interdisciplinary teams, quality initiatives, or system improvement projects. Preferred • Formal training or certification in Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, Medical Leadership, Healthcare Management, or Medical Education. • Experience in continuing professional development, physician leadership, and change management. • Experience working within seniors' care, continuing care programs and/ or complex care environments.
