Position Description: The Department of Pediatrics (DoP), invites applicants to apply to a 1.0 FTE, AMHSP Pediatric Neurologist position, with subspecialty interest and training in epilepsy. The position is part of the Section of Pediatric Neurology at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, within Alberta Health Services, Calgary Zone. The preferred target start date is October 1, 2026 This is a major clinical position with 70% of the time allocation dedicated to clinical activity supporting our epilepsy and general neurology services. For the remaining 30% of time allocation, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the academic, educational, and leadership activities of the Section. The distribution of activities can be proportionally allocated based on the successful candidate’s goals, interests, and experience in alignment with opportunities and initiatives within the Section. This position will be at the Clinical Assistant Professor level or higher, commensurate with experience and profile. The preferred candidate will have immediate experience practicing in an academic tertiary-quaternary center. Certification and competency in EEG reading is an absolute requirement for the position, and an ability to read evoked potentials (EPs) is desirable. This position will join the existing group of 4 full-time pediatric epileptologists, with a range of expertise, in the Alberta Children’s Hospital Comprehensive Children’s Epilepsy Program. Activities within the Epilepsy Program include: a very active Paediatric epilepsy monitoring unit and surgical evaluation program, both inpatient and outpatient routine and prolonged EEG services, a robust ambulatory EEG service, Pediatric & Neonatal Intensive Care EEG monitoring, a ketogenic diet program, vagus nerve stimulation assessment and monitoring, and ongoing clinical trials. Our program runs in conjunction with the Adult Epilepsy program at the University of Calgary as part of the overall Calgary Epilepsy Program. In addition, to a focused role in our epilepsy program, the successful candidate will join an existing group of 10 full-time Pediatric Neurologists (inclusive of our pediatric epileptologists) and 6 part-time/affiliate/adjunct faculty. Our Section has a diverse breadth of subspecialty expertise and interests that include: sleep, neuromuscular disorders, stroke, neurocritical care, neurotrauma, neuroinflammation, headache, neonatal neurology, fetal neurology and neurodevelopment, as well as epilepsy. The Section of Pediatric Neurology is based at Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) and provides comprehensive in-patient consultative services to all in-patient units, 2 NICU's (ACH and FMC) and one level two PICU within the Calgary region. The Section also provides out-patient clinical management, for a large number of patients with complex conditions at the ACH. The approximate 2+ million population catchment area includes all of southern Alberta, southwestern Saskatchewan,
Qualifications: Qualifications include an MD, with preferred certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Pediatric Neurology. Additional recognized training, and/or certification in EEG interpretation, from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), is desired and is an absolute requirement for any candidate intending to participate in the interpretation of EEGs. The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Must read, write, and speak English.
