Deputy Medical Director, FMC Neurocritical Care ICU Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) | Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) The Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) invites applications for the position of Deputy Medical Director in the FMC Neurocritical Care ICU (FMC C Pod). The position is a 0.1 FTE position with the DCCM. Applicants must have a medical degree; fellowship training in critical care medicine with certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) or equivalent; and dedicated subspecialty training or experience in neurocritical care. Applicants must also be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. The successful applicant will be able to provide excellent care as an intensivist at any of the four general systems intensive care units operated by the DCCM within Alberta Health Services – Calgary Corridor. The Deputy Medical Director will provide medical leadership for FMC C Pod and neurocritical care services within the FMC ICU, working collaboratively with the Medical Director, ICU Patient Care Manager, site executive leadership, Facility Medical Director, and Department Head on clinical, operational, quality, and patient safety issues related to neurocritical care. The successful candidate will serve as the primary medical leadership contact for neurological and neurocritical care patient issues, including RLS reviews and patient/family concerns, and will participate in key site and departmental committees, including the Calgary Corridor ICU Executive Committee, the DCCM Medical Executive Committee, and the Departmental Quality Assurance Committee. This role includes leadership in the development and implementation of neurocritical care policies, procedures, protocols, and clinical workflows; oversight of admission pathways, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary communication; and coordination with Clinical Neurosciences, Emergency Medicine, Surgery, Medicine, Anesthesia, RAAPID, STARS, and other partners. The Deputy Medical Director will also support the Department Head and Medical Director with physician orientation, evaluation, workforce planning, recruitment, and departmental reporting related to neurocritical care, and will promote a positive FMC C Pod culture grounded in professionalism, collaboration, respect, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Deputy Medical Director will also contribute to resident and learner education within FMC C Pod, supporting the Residency Program Director, Residency Training Committee, Department Head, and site education leads, and will promote neurocritical care teaching through bedside teaching, simulation, and faculty development.
