About the role Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applications for a Locum Family Medicine physician to join a well-established team serving patients in Fort Saskatchewan at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital. As a Hospitalist, you will provide Hospital Medicine for inpatients. You will manage patients requiring admission with care needs appropriate for family medicine, working collaboratively with Associate Physicians/ Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, as well as Allied Health and other Specialists to support safe recovery, medical optimization, and discharge planning. Opportunity at a Glance * Practice setting: Hospital * Position Reports to: Department Hospital Lead, Hospitalist Family Medicine * Approximate FTE/ rotation model: 1 week in a 6-week rotating schedule (flexible) * Weekend Coverage: yes * Patient population: Urban * Call responsibilities: yes * Patient Census: 18-22 patients * Start date: 01 January 2027 Responsibilities Include * Hospital inpatient care or consultative services Clinical Supports & Environment May Include * Associate Physicians / NPs / PAs support * Pharmacy support / rounding model * Specialist backup (e.g., IM, surgery, ICU) * Allied health team: PT/OT/SW, etc. * Diagnostics: CT, MRI, ICU, etc. * EMR: Connect Care / Epic Academic & Teaching Opportunities * Teaching medical students and/or residents while on shift
Qualifications We are seeking collaborative, adaptable physicians who are comfortable in Hospital Medicine/inpatient environments and who value interdisciplinary teamwork. Required Assets * Certification in Family Medicine with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), or equivalent * Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) * Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) * Experience in Hospital Medicine Preferred Assets * Interest in quality improvement, teaching, or program development Sponsorship AHS sponsorship: Not eligible for a CPSA Practice Assessment.
